Angry drunks, nightclubs, and a trip to the Salt Lake City Temple
8:20 AM
I think it is secretly every Mormon girl's dream to to inside the Salt Lake Temple "someday." Even if they don't get married in it, just to go inside. It has so much history and sacrifice embedded in the walls, and it's gorgeous.
I can't speak for everyone, but I have always wanted to go. I had been begging Calvin to take me for my birthday, but our work schedules just didn't work out. Then on a Friday we were able to go. I have the best husband. Running like mad we made it to the train station just in time.
It felt like we were whisking away on a weekend getaway trip, even if it was only for an evening. Words can't even describe what it felt like going to the temple that night so I won't even try. It was amazing.
Afterwards, we walked over to Crown Burger, one of my top ten favorite restaurants in the world. Yes, they have seriously good burgers. Around 10 pm we decided to ride the tram back to the station. We got there 54 minutes early. We weren't going to wait in the cold for 54 minutes, so we got back on and went the opposite way, just to warm up a little. We got off at City Creek Mall ready to catch the next tram back to the station and then go home. We waited, and waited. We missed the last tram and decided we would have to walk all the way back. It was close to 11pm. The last train leaving for Provo was 11:50. Cringe.
We had to walk through old Greek town, which should really be renamed "creepy-homeless alley." It was a deep contrast from going to temple. In our Sunday best we walked past drunk people yelling at us. One man with a girl drove up in a white car, " Hey! Hey man! Aren't we going to the party at your house?!" We kept walking. "HEY! I'm talking to you! Don't you remember me?! Oh, I see how it is man!!" He was an angry drunk but luckily drove away. After passing two guys smoking pot, a couple of scruffy looking characters, and two clubs fully of skanky Halloween costumes, we finally made it to the station. There was only 8 minutes to spare. Sitting in the warm car going back to Provo, I was tired but grateful. It was not the average temple trip, but one I will always remember.
Best Birthday present ever.A photo not very good photo I shot form the hip while trying to find our tram. We couldn't take temple photos because the temple gate was closed. |
