I teased Calvin the whole night before.

"Hey Calvin, I have a surprise for you, but I can't tell you!" I would say.

Secretly I had planned to rent a canoe and have a fun day on Utah Lake. I like to do surprise dates every once in awhile. It keeps things fun. He tried guessing date ideas while we were watching a movie with our laptop on our front lawn. I giggled because each guess was incorrect. The next morning I told him we were going to the lake.

"Wow, I didn't expect that," he said.

Lately we have been joking about global warming, saying how grateful we are for the unusually warm spring. The day I choose to go out on the lake happened to be 65 degrees, in February.
When does that ever happen?

I packed a picnic of sandwiches and any snacks lying around  the house, and threw in a couple of sparkling apple ciders we received for Christmas. After spending an hour trying to strap the canoe onto our 97 Toyota Camry, we were off.
